YAC Golf

For the first time in the 63 year history of the Yorktown Athletic Club sports organization, thanks to David Gorstein (YAC golf commissioner) and Bruce Apar (founder of the Harrison Apar Foundation) there is now a youth golf program being offered through YAC.  Our inaugural session was held in September of 09 and was such a huge success that we will be increasing the number of sessions in 2011 possibly running it 3 times this year for the 10-17 age groups.  We are also adding a Pee-Wee series for children between the ages of 6-9 years of age.  The program consists of 8 sessions (90 minutes for 10-17 year olds and 60 minutes for the Pee-Wee group) and we cover long swing, short swing, chipping, putting, sand bunker play, golf rules, golf etiquette, golf history and now we are implementing the First Tee Life Skills lessons.  We will also be introducing a new session that will consist of only 8 participants by tryout only.  This session is geared for the advanced player and is designed to groom these individuals to prepare them to play in Met PGA Junior Tournaments, as well as solidifying their high school and possibly college golf career.  It is very intense instruction and will cover all aspects of the golf swing mechanics as well as golf rules instruction.  And finally, we are putting together a nine hole twi-light league by tryouts only which will consist of players competing on the course once a week during the spring. This league will meet and play the same time every week for 8 weeks.
