In September of 2009, with special thanks to David Gorstein (YAC golf commisioner) and Bruce Apar ( founder of the Harrison Apar Foundation ), a youth golf program was implemented through the Yorktown Athletic Club for the first time in its 64 year history. As Director of Golf Instruction for YAC, we not only teach golf but through the First Tee Program of Metropolitan New York, we teach the children life skills lessons which include honor, integrity, self disipline, how to interact with people.
The program is an 8 week session that we run in the Spring and Fall after school and on weekends. There are divisions for 6-9 year olds, 10-13 year olds and 14-17 year olds including a Twi-light division which allows the kids to play 9 holes weekly. The Twi-light division is a stepping stone for the advanced player and is designed to groom these individuals to prepare them to play in Met PGA Junior Tournaments as well as solidifying their high school and possibly college golf career. It is very intense instruction and will cover all aspects of the golf swing mechanics as well as golf rules.
